Cassie Latshaw CD Release
written by: David Reich

Every summer, in a small town in north eastern Oklahoma known as Okemah, people come together for the annual Woody Fest celebration to enjoy comradery and the
burgeoning local music scene. Cassie Latshaw, with her chord stick in hand (a handmade instrument that was gifted to her by a sick friend), was like anyone else who went to the
festival; looking for a good time, to meet good people, and wanting a chance to get on stage and perform. All of that ended up happening for her but perhaps not in the order that she had anticipated. When Cassie first tried to sign up to perform at Woodyfest back in 2011, she was
denied a spot because they said that they had already had too many artists and not enough time slots to fit them all in. Disappointed, she found her way to the Rocky Road Tavern, a quaint little bar in Okemah, where she just had her first album release party, to have a drink and there she met the Taverns owner; local legend Lou Johnson. Lou noticed Cassie was feeling down and after talking to her realized that Cassie was just a pure soul who wanted to play her music but
couldn’t; except that wouldn’t fly in Lou’s town. Lou got her a spot right away and since then Cassie has taken off as an artist culminating in her first album release last weekend.
Cassie Latshaw’s debut album “Guinevere” is an ode to her life the past 7 years as she has discovered herself not only as an artist but also a mother, wife, and human being. Speaking from the heart she delivers a genuine product that reflects what she has known and how she has come to think in her day to day life in small town Oklahoma. The process, which has been 5 years in the making and a result of popular demand in the local music scene, was spearheaded by Cassie and her rag tag team of talented musicians that she has met throughout her time in the area. She states that the album “speaks for itself,” and that “there are no subliminal messages,” and highlights two tracks; “A Love as Big as the Stars” which is about having someone waiting for you in another life and “Going Down”, the first song and groove as her personal favorites and crowd pleasers. “Guinevere” is on sale now and you can catch Cassie and her signature Chord stick at her performances at the Rocky Road.
The Rocky Road Tavern is a small bar and venue in Okemah that caters to local artists and music that prides itself on being a safe haven and a hub for the creativity and music that
surrounds the local area. With a focus on original singers and songwriters, the Rocky Road Tavern has “Tuesday Tunes” every Tuesday with showcases for another new artist every weekand an open mic after the sets so anyone can get a chance to show what they’ve got. Performers play on a stage in a newly redone backyard patio complete with the lights and
ambience to give the feel of a big time outdoor venue in a small town scene.
Keep an eye out for Cassie Latshaw as she makes her way through the Oklahoma music scene.
